Each year the National Park Service hosts “free days” where entrance fees are waived to parks across the country that normally charge a fee, including Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, Great Sand Dunes and Black Canyon. 106 national parks and monuments that normally charge an entrance fee will be free on 10 days in 2026, with a few notable new dates and several usual suspects missing. New this year, Memorial Day, Flag Day (also advertised as President Trump’s birthday), Independence Day weekend, the NPS’s birthday, Constitution Day and Teddy Roosevelt’s birthday have been added as free days. Missing is MLK Day, the first day of National Park Week, Juneteenth, the Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act and National Public Lands Day. Also new in 2026, free days will only apply to U.S. citizens and residents.
Here are the 10 free days in 2026:
Monday, February 16, 2026: President’s Day (Washington’s Birthday)
Monday, May 25, 2026: Memorial Day
Sunday, June 14, 2026: Flag Day (Trump’s Birthday)
Friday, July 3 – Sunday, July 5, 2026: Independence Day Weekend
