Dinosaur National Monument on the Colorado-Utah Border

A massive piece of protected land at the northern state border of Colorado and Utah, sits Dinosaur National Monument which at first glance looks like a barren desert wasteland. But dig deeper and it becomes one of the world's richest dinosaur deposits.

Two separate visitor centers, one in Colorado and one in Utah, both have interactive displays. Dinosaur fossils can only be seen at the Quarry Exhibit Hall near the Utah entrance. Take a shuttle from the Quarry Visitors Center.

Hiking, rafting and horseback riding are a few other popular activities within the monument and can be either on your own or through an outfitter.

Echo Park in the heart of Dinosaur National Monument features picturesque Steamboat Rock, the Yampa River, and after a short walk from the campground, a petroglyph panel. The Pool Creek Petroglyphs can be easily seen with an easy walk from the road and feature dot-pattern designs and are high above the creek along the rock face.
