Montrose Regional Airport

The closest airport to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is Montrose Regional Airport with commercial flights from Allegiant, American, Delta and United airlines. These airlines offer flights from Denver, Dallas, Chicago, Houston and Phoenix in the summer. During the winter ski season, there are additional flights from New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Atlanta, Charlotte and Salt Lake City. It’s a mere 15-mile/half-hour drive from the airport to the national park’s south entrance on South Rim Road.

You will need a vehicle to tour Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Rental car agencies at the airport include Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Alamo, Payless and Thrifty.

Grand Junction Regional Airport

A larger airport near Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is the Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) served by American Airlines, Delta, United and Allegiant. It’s approximately an 80-mile/1.5-hour drive from the airport to the park’s south entrance on South Rim Road.

Car rentals are available on the airport grounds through Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, Hertz and National. 

The Grand Junction airport is also a good choice for nearby destinations such as Colorado National Monument and Dinosaur National Monument.

Denver International Airport

Farther away, but a good option if you are visiting multiple national parks in Colorado is Denver International Airport (DEN) located 30 minutes east of downtown Denver. The airport is served by nine domestic commercial airlines: Alaska, American, Boutique Air, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Southwest and United, plus many international airlines. It’s approximately a 280-mile/5.25-hour drive from the airport to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park South Entrance Station.
