National Park Trips is an Outside brand. We’re a small team of national park enthusiasts based in Colorado. When we’re not working, chances are we’re outside experiencing the public lands we all love. That, or planning our next trip.

Pitch a Story to National Park Trips

We’re always looking for writers with unique stories to tell about our national parks. If you have a story idea, first check out all eight of our websites to make sure we haven’t already covered it. Most of our content is service-oriented trip planning resources, but we’re especially looking for freelance writers to contribute creative stories including longform features, personal narratives, profiles, investigative pieces and humor. We do not cover news or current events that don’t have an evergreen component. We mainly cover Colorado’s National Parks, Badlands, Glacier, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, Great Smoky Mountains, Olympic, Utah’s National Parks, Yellowstone and Yosemite, but are open to stories in national parks and other public lands surrounding these parks.

Once you’ve determined your story is a fit, send us a pitch that describes why your idea is right for National Park Trips, why you’re the writer to do it, how you’ll report it and why the story is relevant now. If other publications have written about this topic before, tell us why your angle is unique. If you’re new to writing for National Park Trips, send us a few clips in the style of the piece you’re pitching. Published pieces are preferred, but if you haven’t been published send us a few writing samples. We’re willing to work with first time writers if it’s a good fit. We love giving diverse and historically underrepresented writers and subjects a platform at National Park Trips so if you or your story fits that category, please reach out.
