Colorado National Monument
This desert park perched at the western edge of Colorado features rock pillars, juniper-cloaked hills and incredible rock formations.
Best known for its vistas from the 23-mile scenic drive (or road bike ride) on Rim Rock Drive, the park also is a great place to hike, watch wildlife (such as desert bighorn sheep, coyotes and golden eagles) and stargaze. You’ll find some of the country’s darkest skies here. It’s also uncrowded, making it a great place to experience solitude.
